Spelling Bee Games 5th and 6th Grade
In this ongoing class we will work on 5th and 6th grade target words. Students will improve their spelling by learning strategies, playing games, completing challenges and participating in mock spelling bees.

Whether you are interested in being a spelling bee champion or you just want to be less reliant on spell-checkers, this class can help you! Students will learn to improve their spelling with a variety of strategies. We will learn to group words into spelling-families. We will examine prefixes, roots and suffixes. We will study word origin and definitions and learn mnemonic tools to increase correct spelling memory. Students will participate in spelling words in various game formats. Word lists for this class will be equivalent to the 5th and 6th grade Scripps National Spelling Bee. Words will conform to standard U.S. spellings.
Learning Goals
Students will practice and improve their spelling of commonly used and less commonly used 5th and 6th grade level words.

Supply List
Each class will have a print-out worksheet. Please access and print the worksheet from the class portal before class begins to participate in the class games and word study.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
