Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Advanced Level
The key to Algebra 2 is to stay sharp on basic skills, such as PEMDAS, combining like terms, exponent rules, and factoring. They will also review following the steps for solving word problems, such as identifying the unknown and known, representing the unknown with a variable, expressing the other terms, writing an equation, solving the equation, and answering the original question. They will also be reminded to verify the solution, retain the new concept, and practice for mastery. Diligence and attention to detail will be the keys to being efficient in working algebraic equations. The program will recycle at the end of the lessons.
Lesson 1 (Week of January 22, 2023) - Review the order of operations, identify algebraic property expressions, simplify using the exponent properties, translate expressions into full algebraic expressions, and evaluate expressions at given values.
Lesson 2 ( Week of January 29, 2023) - Review the operations of addition and subtraction polynomials, multiplying monomials by polynomials, multiplying polynomials by polynomials, multiplying conjugates, squaring binomials, simplifying order of operations, rewriting expressions using the identifiable property, and simplifying using the exponent property.
Lesson 3 (Week of February 5, 2023) - Review the order of operations, dividing polynomials by monomials, dividing polynomials by binomials, finding a missing dividend or divisor by using 0xⁿ, and adding and multiplying binomials, monomials, and polynomials.
Lesson 4 ( Week of February 12, 2023) - factor each perfect square trinomial, factor each difference between two squares, rewrite each term of the original binomial as a base raised to the nth power, factoring binomials of form x to the nth power +or - y to the nth power, writing without negative exponents, writing without a denominator, and multiplying using the FOIL method.
Lesson 5 (Week of February 19, 2023) - factoring quadratic trinomials, factoring trinomials using two variables, dividing polynomials, dividing monomials, and writing and evaluating a given expression.
Lesson 6 (Week of February 26, 2023) - factor by grouping the polynomials in descending order of exponents, factor by grouping the trinomials in descending order of exponents, factor by grouping trinomials using the FOIL method, and factor binomials, monomials, polynomials, and trinomials.
Lesson 7 (Week of March 5, 2023) - cancel all factors common to both numerators and denominators, simplify each rational expression, multiply rational expressions using cancellation, divide rational expressions by inverting the divisor, adding and subtracting rational expressions using LCD, square binomials, factor by grouping, and write algebraic expressions.
Lesson 8 (Week of March 12, 2023) - simplify the polynomials by combining like radicals, multiplying each radical to a fractional exponent, multiplying radical expressions, simplifying the denominator by dividing, and factoring monomials, binomials, polynomials, and trinomials.

Bachelor's Degree in Education from Pensacola Christian College - no ending time or cessation of degree
I graduated from a 4-year liberal arts program with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Minor in History. My dedication to teaching math stems from wanting students to have the ability to succeed in their endeavors. I have taught in the classroom and homeschooled for over 30 years, teaching from K2 through 12th grade, plus 3 1/2 years at a small college over their education program. The complete classroom elements must be taught to be well-rounded academically, mentally, intellectually, and physically.

My teaching experience is as follows: Advanced K5; 1st through 6th-grade phonics, reading, and math program; 5th grade all subjects; 7th through 8th-grade math, Algebra I and II, Consumer Math, Geometry, Speech, Typing, Shorthand, and Spanish I; 7th - 12th grade English and Speech; Remedial College English, College English 101 & 102, History of Civilization 101 and 102, American History 101 and 102, and American Government 101 and 102. In addition, I taught for 3 1/2 years at the college level for a small college as the director of their education department.

I have already taught a remedial Algebra I class, and I am presently teaching several sections of Remedial Math 102: Mastering the Fundamental Concepts.

Past high school math teaching:
Sept.-Dec. 1984 Faith Academy, Joppa, Maryland, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Consumer Math.
Jan. 1985 - May 1987 Heritage Academy, Yuma, Arizona, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry.
Sept. 1987 - Dec. 1990 Maryland Baptist College, Elkton, Maryland, College Math 101 (basic math), College Algebra, Teaching Math, and Director of the Student Teaching.
Sept. 1993 - Mar. 1994, Pathway Academy, Jay, Florida, Algebra 1 and 2.
Aug. 2000 - May 2007, Brookwood Academy, Brookwood, Alabama, 5th-6th grade Math, 7th-8th grade Intermediate Math, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry.
Aug. 2007 - May 2010, Central Academy, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, 5th-6th grade Math, 7th-8th grade Intermediate Math, Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry.
2013-2022 - Private, Online VIPKids, Outschool, teaching - 5th -6th-grade Remedial Math, Consumer Math, 7th-grade Math, Intermediate Pre-Algebra, 7th-12th grade Remedial Math, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I.
