There will be an initial assessment and then progress monitoring assessments.Class Experience
I have taught reading for the past 20 years. I have worked with preschool aged students all the way through middle school. In this class each child will be given an initial assessment in order for me to see what strengths and weakness each child has. This allows me to then put them into a phonics level where we will be able to work on phonemic awareness, phonics, word and story fluency, spelling and comprehension. The main phonics program that I use is SIPPS that was written by John Shufflnine. As students become more confident readers our focus will slowly move from more phonics based lessons to fluency and comprehension where we will not only work on basic comprehension but response to literature as well as being able to formulate ideas and paragraphs from non-fiction text. We would slowly move from short readers to chapter books depending on the child’s abilities. After the initial assessment there will be short ongoing assessments to track the progress of each child to ensure mastery of the skills being taught throughout the lessons. The goal is for students to become more confident readers who can apply their skills in all classes. I love reading and hope to help my students become life long learners who also enjoy to read. Week 1: Assessment and placed in a phonics/reading level Week 2-5 moving through lessons in the curriculum Week 6: assessment and replaced in a level or continuing through lessons Week 7-12 moving through lessons in the curriculum Weeks 13 assessment and replaced in a level or continuing through lessons Week 14-16 moving through lessons in the curriculum and final assessment.

Idaho Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi I have been teaching elementary school for 20 years. I have a love for teaching and my goal is to help students love to read and learn. Teaching kids to read if my favorite thing to do and I love watching kids go from beginning readers to fluent readers who don't want to put a book down.
I pride myself in helping scholars learn to have a growth mindset. Once scholars realize that mistakes are magical they will be more willing to try and learn from the mistakes they make.
I have 2 of my own boys, ages 10 and 12. We love to play with our animals and pretty much anything outside.
