Class Experience

In this class, students will be reading 1st grade reading passages. They will then answer questions based on the passage by using a highlighter to find evidence for their answer. After finding the evidence, students will be guided into answering with complete sentences.

This skill is very important and beneficial for when it comes to taking tests. They will be analyzing the text, and providing proof of their answer. They will learn how to respond by using complete sentences, and not just stating the answer in a phrase. This will help with their writing (especially open-ended questions or essays) and spelling.

The first day will be modeled and guided on their work. The second day, they will try to independently complete it following the steps we completed the day before. All the passage will be from k12 reader.

MUST BE ABLE TO: Read on a 1st grade level.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a certified teacher in elementary, early childhood, and physical education. I have a Master's of Arts in Teaching in Elementary and a Bachelor's of Arts in Kinesiology. I am also endorsed in Gifted and Talented and have a TESOL Certificate. I have taught grades 1-5 for over 8 years in the public school system and ESOL learners online for over 3 years.

I am a mother of a 5 year old and almost 3 year old and understand the importance of teaching the foundational skills of reading at an early age! Foundational skills are critical to set the stage for future success in reading, and that is why I offer a sight words class! With over 8 years of teaching experience in elementary education, teaching in public schools, I have found that when students know these sight words, it dramatically increases their confidence and comprehension.

My lessons are fun and engaging and I look forward to working with you and your child!
