US Grade 1
The course will build a learners reading comprehension by focusing on strategies such as summarizing, synthesizing, theme, characters and much more. We will read a variety of genres such as fantasy, informational, realistic fiction, and much more. In each lesson, the teacher will go over the genre and the vocabulary words that will be discussed during the story, a teacher read aloud will follow with some stopping points of comprehension checks, and a strategy organizer discuss and filling out as a class. The students are encouraged to write ideas and details in a copy of the organizer or sheet of paper during class session. The learner will complete assignments such as power word organizers and comprehension questions during their independent time. Grade and feedback will be given with completion of both parts as one whole grade.

The learning goal is for the learner to build stronger reading comprehension skills that will help them understand the text better and build a broader vocabulary.

Supply List
Comprehension organizers and comprehension questions will be provided. If not able to print or write digitally, the learner may use pencil and paper for organizer, vocabulary words, and comprehension questions.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
