This class is for any kiddo that is ready to read beyond the basic sight words! (And it’s perfect for my students that are finishing up my sight word program! ;) ) This is a reading class, so of course, we will be reading every day! :) Each day we will read a different emergent reader or passage together in class. However, each day, each emergent reader (or passage) will focus on a different skill. I plan to spend the first few weeks of the class learning about CVC words by focusing on the short vowel sounds. We will incorporate word families during this time as well. After, we will move on to the long vowel sounds and different long vowel rules. This will include silent E (CVCe words), vowel teams, & diphthongs. Other rules that will be incorporated in the class include blends, bossy R, the sound of Y comprehension, fluency, & both fiction and non-fiction reads. A tentative schedule is listed below: ____________________________________________________________________ TENTATIVE SCHEDULE Week #1: March 15th- 19th -Monday – Focus: short a (CVC) -Tuesday - Sight Word: ask -Wednesday – Comprehension (March) - Thursday - Word Family: -at -Friday – Word Family: -ad Week #2 March 22nd-26th -Monday – Focus: short e (CVC) - Tuesday - Sight Word: every -Wednesday – Word Family: -ed -Thursday - Word Family: -et -Friday – Nonfiction Read: Desert Animals Week #3 March 29th- April 2nd -Monday – Focus: short i (CVC) -Tuesday - NO CLASS -Wednesday – Word Family: -ig - Thursday - Word Family: -it -Friday – Nonfiction Read: Rabbits Week #4 April 5th – 9th -Monday – Short o (CVC) -Tuesday – Sight Word: off -Wednesday – Word Family: -ob -Thursday - Word Family: -ot -Friday – Nonfiction: Pond Animals Week #5 April 12th – 15th -Monday – Short u (CVC) -Tuesday - Word Family: -ub -Wednesday – Word Family: -ug -Thursday - Focus: Short Vowel Review -Friday – Focus: Comprehension (April) Week #6 April 19th-23rd -Monday – Bossy R: AR words - Tuesday – Sight Word: part -Wednesday – Bossy R: OR words -Thursday – Nonfiction: Earth Day -Friday – Bossy R s: ER words Week #7 April 26th- 30th -Monday – Sight Word: under -Tuesday – Bossy R: IR words -Wednesday- Bossy R: UR words - Thursday – Sight Word: after -Friday– Long VS Short Vowels Week #8 May 3rd-7th -Monday – Long a (CVCe/Silent E) - Tuesday – Word family: -ate -Wednesday – Long i (CVCe/Silent E) -Thursday - Sight word: write -Friday – Comprehension (May) Week #9 May 10th-14th -Monday – Sight Word: only - Tuesday - Long o (CVCe/Silent E) -Wednesday – Word Family – oke -Thursday - Long u (CVCe/Silent E) -Friday – Sight Word: use Week #10 May 17th – 21st -Monday – Long Vowel Review (CVCe/Silent E) - Tuesday - Diagraph SH -Wednesday – Diagraph TH -Thursday – Sight Word: then -Friday – Nonfiction Read: Then & Now Week #11 May 24th – 28th -Monday – Diagraph CH - Tuesday – NO CLASS -Wednesday – Sight Word: much -Thursday – Sight Word: which -Friday – Diagraph CK Week #12 May 31st - June 4th -Monday – NO CLASS (Memorial Day) - Tuesday – S Blends -Wednesday – Nonfiction Read: Spiders -Thursday – L Blends -Friday – Comprehension/Fluency(June) Week #13 June 7th – 11th -Monday – R Blends - Tuesday – Focus Y as in I -Wednesday – Focus Y as in E -Thursday – Nonfiction Read: Ladybugs -Friday – Word Family – ake Week #14 June 14th – 18th -Monday – Vowel Team: ai - Tuesday - Nonfiction Read: Rain Forest Animals -Wednesday – Vowel Team: ay -Thursday – Vowel Team: ea -Friday – Sight Word: each Week #15 June 21st – 25th -Monday – Nonfiction Read: Seasons - Tuesday – NO CLASS -Wednesday – Sight Word: please -Thursday – Vowel Team: ee -Friday – Vowel Team: ey Week #16 June 28th – July 2nd -Monday – Vowel Team: oa -Tuesday – Vowel Team: oe -Wednesday – Vowel Team: ow -Thursday – Nonfiction Read: American Symbols -Friday – NO CLASS Week #17 July 5th – 9th -Monday – NO CLASS -Tuesday – Vowel Team: ui -Wednesday – Vowel Team: ue -Thursday – Vowel Team: ew -Friday – Comprehension (Summer) Week #18– July 12th-16th -Monday – Vowel Team: ie -Tuesday – Word Family: -ace -Wednesday - Word Family: -ame -Thursday – Comprehension (read & find) -Friday – NO CLASS Week #19– July 19th-23rd -Monday – Reading & Writing Response -Tuesday – Reading & Writing Response -Wednesday – Reading & Writing Response -Thursday – Reading & Writing Response -Friday – NO CLASS
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This course is for students who are already reading basic/beginner sentences. Students should know several sight words as well as all their letters by sight and sound prior to enrolling in this class. If your child is not yet reading, but already knows all their letters by sight and sound, please consider enrolling in my sight word #1 class instead of this one.
Supply List
Students should have paper and coloring supplies for each class. It's also ideal for students to have a dry-erase board, dry-erase marker, and eraser for class. (However, if a dry erase board is not available, a piece of paper with a writing utensil will work fine too.)
