Reading and Writing Success! Learning Through Word Patterns

Students will learn word patterns by saying them and reading them together. They will use whiteboards or paper and pencil to write the words and patterns.  I will read a story to the group and we find word patterns together .  Books will be instructional level for the group so that they can read along.  They will then all write a story in their journals about what was read, using the word patterns introduced in class.  Each class will build upon the previous class. 

Class Format: 
Class 1 - Word pattern "ig" learning words big, pig, wig, zigzag, and twig.  mat, patted, pattern, batter (and more). Students will writes words and learn to recognize the pattern "ig".  Class will include a read aloud where students locate words with the "ig" pattern. We will discuss book meaning and comprehension.  Class will conclude with writing.  Each student will write a a few sentences (based on their ability) which includes a topic of their choice. I will help guide them to include one word with and "ig" pattern. I will also coach them individually to hear all the sounds in the words that they write and to make sure that what they are writing makes sense!
Class 2 - Same format including "ag" pattern
Class 3 - Same format including "on" pattern
Class 4- Same format including "in" pattern
