I am a certified teacher. I am certified pre-k to 6th grade. Students will have reading and writing lesson tailored to their ability level. The first session will be exploration of reading and words. Student will engage in fun word play and reading practice to showcase their ability level. The rest of the sessions will be focused on the student areas of need. Students that need to build foundations of parts of words and connecting letter sounds to decode these words that will be a focus in the lesson. The one-on-one tutoring format will help with building confidence with the student and give a clear understanding of their learning style. My teaching style of interactive slides and games and discussions of higher-level thinking will help any child become a strong reader and writer. I want to help your child get to that level of confidence and view learning in a fun and exciting way. Topics covered: Reading and Writing: Phonological Awareness: blend, and segment syllables in spoken words. Focus on the beginning, middle, and ending sounds, understand the similarities and differences between similarly spelled words. Practiced reading on leveled books through Fountas and Pinell levels with one-to-one correspondence to develop fluency and comprehension skills. Helping the student to understand the purpose and understanding and connecting it with writing. Writing: informative, persuasive, narrative, and poetry: sequencing, word choice, purpose, writer's voice, details I will model in detail each area in reading and writing. This will provide students with a visual guide. At the end of each week students will be working on a piece of writing connected to their reading and then the work will be in final draft mode. At the end students will gain confidence in their reading and writing abilities.

Hi! My name is Ms. Kimberly Shields. I am very excited to be your tutor. I have been in education for 14 years. I have taught preschool all the way up to 5th grade. I have taught students with Autism, ADHD, and specified learning challenges. I am very creative and I believe that learning should be a fun experience.
