Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Student will:

-develop a mathematical growth mindset to gain confidence in mathematics
-increase mathematical fluency in multiplication and division 
-address mathematical misconceptions by developing a strong conceptual foundation in multiplication and division 
-build procedural skills of solving multiplying and dividing whole numbers 
-apply mathematical concepts and procedural skills to solving word problems with multiplication and/or division 
All of our tutors are trained on how to implement math placement tests with behavior/SEL questionnaires. They received 2 hours of training on how to implement assessments with fidelity as well as how to report the results to families/caregivers. The training was led by a Behavior Specialist and Special Education Teacher with over 10 years of experience in administering placement assessments and questionnaires. 
Homework is learner directed. This means that students will complete homework assignments they receive from their school/homeschool. Homework will be reviewed in the following session. This means that homework will be checked for strengths and misconceptions.

Required Materials: -Pencils ($1.00) -Erasers ($0.50-$1.00) -Learner-directed assignments from school/homeschool curriculum -Math Placement Assessment (Print before first session/FREE) -Student Interest Survey (Print before first session/FREE) _____________________________________________________________________ Optional Materials: -Parent approved fidget ($3.00-$5.00) -Multiplication Chart (FREE-Provided by tutor)
Students will be assessed using a math placement test during the first and last sessions for tutoring. This assessment will include:

-Math problems (to determine mathematical performance level)
-Behavior/SEL Questionnaire (to determine strengths and areas of improvement)

Parents/caregivers will receive a summary of the results from the math placement test.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
There are no sensitive topics addressed in this class.
All classwork is learner directed. This means that learners bring their own assignments from school/homeschool.
