Private Beginner Chess Lessons - Scheduled by Request

This class is scheduled by demand.  This can be a one-on-one class (default), or a class with siblings or friends.  2 students would change the price to $20 each, 3 students = $15 each, 4 or more = $12 per learner.  Please let me know if you'd like me to open up your time slot to others.  

If your child is brand new to chess, here is an example of how our first lessons will look: 

First meeting: Getting to know each other, finding out the child's skill level (if not brand new), as well as learning styles and preferences. 
Lesson 1: Introduce Pawns and the board
Lesson 2: Practice playing a game with just pawns, learning passant
Lesson 3: Introduce Bishops and Rooks
Lesson 4: Practice Playing a game with pawns, bishops & rooks
Lesson 5: Introduce Knights
Lesson 6: Practice Playing a game with pawns, bishops, rooks & knights
Lesson 7: Introduce the Queen
Lesson 8: Practice Playing a game with all pieces but the king
Lesson 9: Introduce the King, Castling, Swapping Pawns, Check, Check-Mate
Lesson 10-12 and all future lessons, practice playing real chess and build on strategy!

The lessons above can take several meetings to get through each and may change based on the child's interests and needs.  This course goes at the pace of the child. 

Depending on the student, we may spend more time on mini-games, taking notes, drawing pictures, or whatever else works for their individual learning style.  During these lessons I try not to teach by "telling" and help students to draw their own conclusions, finding why things are how they are, and discovering patterns. 

I am not a chess master.  I'm just a teacher who really enjoys teaching and playing chess.  If your child gets to a level that challenges me, I will let you know that they may benefit from higher-level lessons from another teacher.  I have had to send that email a few times, and it's bittersweet.  Some of my learners still choose to stick with me and just play, and that's great too!   

Please note, that we use Google slides in this class, and the learner will need to be able to drag images on a Google slides presentation.  This does not work well on an iPad or touchscreen tablet.  They can use a mouse, trackpad, or keyboard to move the pieces.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
