Class Experience
This course is designed to help families connect through learning and practicing chess. Almost every chess class I've taught has had a sibling group in it, and seeing this has inspired me to create a flexible class, friendly to all age groups, that can be enjoyed by the whole family together. 6 lessons//6 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Pawns, En Passant & the BoardWatch a video lesson to get introduced to the chessboard, and how to refer to spaces, such as A5. Practice playing the game suggested, then try your hand at the interactive worksheet.Week 2Lesson 2Bishops & RooksThis week we'll learn about 2 types of pieces that move similarly, the bishops and the rooks. Practice playing the game suggested, then try your hand at the interactive worksheet.Week 3Lesson 3KnightsThe knight is a more complicated move, as you'll learn about in the video lesson. This week I introduce a variety of ways to play and practice using this piece, followed by an interactive worksheet.Week 4Lesson 4The QueenThe most valuable piece is practiced today, with a game for you to practice, as well as a fun challenge in our interactive worksheet.Week 5Lesson 5The King, Castling & CheckWe're almost there! This week is all about the the king, how to use him in the castling move, and how to get the king into check.Week 6Lesson 6CheckMATE, Swapping Pawns, & Beginning StrategyThis week will complete the sessions with a video lesson on checkmate, swapping pawns, and some beginning strategy. Have fun playing a real chess game, and completing this weeks interactive worksheet.
- Week 1: Pawns, en passant, and the board Week 2: Bishops and Rooks Week 3: Knights Week 4: The Queen (& more knight practice is usually needed) Week 5: The King movement, castling, check Week 6: CheckMATE, swapping pawns, and applying everything to real chess with all the pieces, beginning strategy
