Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 12
This class is scheduled by demand. This can be a one-on-one class, or a class with siblings or friends. 2 students would change the price to $20 each, 3 students = $15 each, 4 or more = $12 per learner. Please let me know if you'd like me to open up your time slot to others. **It is important to me that this class is accessible to anyone that needs it. If the price is not in your budget, please contact me for an adjustment. As a mom to a 10-year-old daughter living with T1D, I know how crazy the math can get. There is so much math! Luckily, I also teach math, so I'm here to help! Bring your favorite recipe(s) or foods. We'll work together to determine how to read the labels to get the information we need to solve our word problems that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and even measuring by volume or weight! A couple of disclaimers: 1) I am not a doctor, and I do not give medical advice. I will never suggest to anyone what their carb ratio should be, or anything else that a doctor might suggest. I'm just here to help you practice the math! 2) All diets are welcome and respected here. I promise not to judge you for your favorite foods, and I expect my learners to also be respectful of other learners and their food choices. Only love and support for each other here! Class Requirements: 1) A kitchen scale of some sort and measuring cups can help with this math, but is not required. 2) It would be very helpful (but not required) if the learner can send me a scanned copy or photo of the recipe they are using before class. It really helps if we can both look at the recipe when doing our word problems. 3) The learner will need to be able to write on the recipe. Personally, my cookbooks are written all over, but if you aren't comfortable with writing in your cookbook (or if it's a library book), please make a copy of the recipe they can write on.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to calculate the carbs per serving of their favorite foods.

A couple of disclaimers:
1) I am not a doctor, and I do not give medical advice. Nothing talked about in this class should be taken as medical advice.
2) All diets are welcome and respected here. I promise not to judge you for your favorite foods, and I expect my learners to also be respectful of other learners and their food choices. Only love and support for each other here!
Class Requirements:
1) Learner must have a kitchen scale of some sort. They won't necessarily need it in class, but will likely need it for dosing in the future. This is very difficult to do without a scale for certain recipes. You can do it without a scale, but not with the same accuracy.
2) It would be very helpful (but not required) if the learner can send me a scanned copy or photo of the recipe they are using before class. It really helps if we can both look at the recipe.
3) The learner will need to be able to write on the recipe. Personally, my cookbooks are written all over, but if you aren't comfortable with writing in your cookbook (or if it's a library book), please make a copy of the recipe they can write on.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
