Class Experience
This is an individualized course. Whether the student is a beginner, or more advanced, we will begin right where they are, and move forward. I like to teach using a method book supplemented with high-interest music that motivates and inspires. I'm an encouraging teacher, always celebrating what a student has accomplished and coaching them toward overcoming difficulties. Music theory will be incorporated into each lesson, with a focus on note reading. I also like to bring in interesting stories about the lives of composers, and encourage students to try composing pieces themselves. I am very open to hearing from families about their preferences in lesson books or methods. In my mind, all methods lead to the same goal: to be able to enjoy and share the beauty of music.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm a mother and former public school special education teacher, currently just teaching music lessons (and, you know, going grocery shopping and those sorts of things). I studied piano and violin at Fresno Pacific University, played in the Baroque Ensemble there, and in the Fresno Lyric Opera orchestra. Since then, I have also learned to play the cello, classical guitar, recorder, and mandolin. My most recent musical interests have been bagpipes and harp. I'm enjoying learning Celtic music, which is part of the Scottish ancestry of part of our family.
My goal for students is that they would learn to love music. It's been such an important aspect of my life, something that comforts and inspires me, and that's what I'd like to see for students. With that in mind, I always try to be attentive to what music really interests the student, and make sure that we work on that as well as more routine lesson pieces. My background is in classical music, but I'm always happy to look up pop music pieces, movie themes, fiddle tunes, whatever a student wants to learn!
I love to introduce beginners to a new instrument, as well as join intermediate or advanced students on their learning journey!
