Class Experience

This is a semester class perfect for Pre-K, Kindergarten or students who need to review foundational skills!
Students will review colors, shapes, months, days of the week, numbers, and letters. Every week, a critical thinking skill will be taught (you can review a list of skills taught in the Learning Goals section below). Phonics will also be introduced weekly. Students will have the opportunity to share the weather in their neighborhood and enjoy show & tell time every Thursday. Our week will include a social studies or science theme where students will learn about Community Helpers (firemen, police, doctors) or learn about space, plant life, or the lifecycle of living things to name a few. Story time includes a comprehension check with questions and detective skills to find our letter of the day. With a limited class size, every students will have an opportunity to participate, answer questions, and sing along. This is also an opportunity for me as a teacher to check skills and work with students in areas that need more attention.

During class, students will practice tracing the "letters and numbers of the week". On most weeks, two letters and two numbers will be practiced. Worksheets will also be made available each week to help with writing skills and more practice at home. If your student is in Kindergarten, please be sure to print these worksheets. This class will have fun songs, chants, and interactive games to help reinforce all Kindergarten concepts taught on their level.

This Pre-K & Kindergarten class is a first semester Kindergarten curriculum designed for both Preschool and Kindergarten students. The class will be presented with slides so students will easily be able to participate and get a clear understanding of the material taught. All recordings are also made available for review.

It's amazing what little minds can learn in just 25-30 minutes in class.

Here's a look at our schedule:
Mon.- Thur: class begins with calendar time. We will review the months of the year or review the monthly calendar and days of the week with a song. Alphabet and Numbers review are included in EVERY class.

Mondays/Wednesday: The "Letter of the day" is introduced, Numbers review, shape of the week, review 2-4 letters for phonics in our song. Phonics review is our favorite part of the class. Students will easily learn the sounds of each letter and remember them through our phonics song: a, a- apple; b, b- ball; c, c- cat; and .....

Tuesday/ Thursdays: Match concepts (writing numbers, counting, patterns, more or less, counting by 10s, number families, and much more) introduced. We'll practice writing the number of the day and review letters of the week through story time. Critical thinking skills are taught and reviewed. Show and Tell day. Students share an item that starts with one of the letters of the week or color of the week. We'll review our letter & numbers of the week then move into our science or social studies lesson. We love celebrating what we learned throughout the week!

This class runs for 16 weeks and prepares students for the "Kindergarten and Beyond Learn to Read CVC Words," an on-going class which incorporates the second semester Kindergarten math and reading concepts. I have many students who have remained in this Pre-K & Kindergarten class for extra preschool help and many who have moved to the Beyond class and enter Kindergarten reading CVC and sight words.

If your student is not ready for a 4-day a week pace, please consider the 2-day a week class which incorporates all the same key letters/numbers concepts. One letter and one number is practiced each week. Here is the link for that class:

Parental Guidance
With young students, a parent nearby can help in case a child needs assistance or help staying attentive. Also, please help your student with the mute and unmute functions in zoom. I do mute students while singing but cannot unmute them in the classroom.
Supply List
Throughout the course of this class, we will use the following. Any variation of the following is fine.
