Together we will walk step by step through the process of adding or subtracting negative numbers in the context of word problems. We will identify key words which will help us to draw pictures to demonstrate our word problems. The students will develop the ability to independently solve the problems using the process demonstrated in class. I will be using One Note as a white board during our Zoom sessions to walk them through each problem. I will also provide provide a recommended IXL.com link and my log in password so they can practice their new skills after class. Everyone will be enthusiastically included. I am a bit goofy, so I tend to alleviate fears quickly. Pre-requisite knowledge: Some previous exposure to the concept of adding and subtracting negative numbers is helpful.

I home-schooled my children for 9 years, but they are 37 and 31 now (they survived). I completed my college degree in 2012 after the housing market crash of 2008 and after my children were grown. I have a Bachelors of Science in Education from Tennessee Technological University and a Teaching license in the State of Tennessee.
I recently completed my Master of Arts in Mathematics Education.
I have found that I love working with small groups or one-on-one and that students can excel and gain confidence faster under these circumstances. My classroom is a no fear zone. "I don't know" is a perfectly acceptable answer, because then we have somewhere to start.
I am looking forward to seeing your child in my classroom!
