Intermediate Level
This one-time class will offer students the opportunity to read and write poetry. We will read some age-appropriate poems together, and students will participate in writing activities to explore their poetic creativity! The goal of the course is to learn about poetry—its form and devices, especially—and to become more comfortable experimenting with language. I am a hands-on teacher who believes in a student-centered classroom. Activities will be focused on student participation and writing time. We'll have group discussions, individual writing exercises, and slides available for the poetry we will read together. In this course, students will gain access to this amazing art form and have the opportunity to express themselves!
Learning Goals
Students will gain knowledge of sound devices, figurative language, poetic forms, and how to interpret and write poems.
