In this 7-week class, learners will have a chance to explore plant biology. Unique North American plants, pollinators, food webs and ecosystems, and plants diagrams will be discussed. Learn about pollinators and host plants in backyards.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be optional and will be mainly project based in any format learner would like.
Certificate of Completion
Teacher will provide a Certificate of Completion upon submittal of homework/projects. Feel free to discuss grading options with teacher if this is required.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
In this 7 week class, a learner will become familiar with plant biology - including the importance of native plants, plant roles in ecosystems, parts of a plant, and cool plants in North America.  This online self paced class will enable a learner to learn at one's own pace.  A learner is welcome to reach out and ask questions.  Each week's worth of classes has a number of brief videos teaching the concepts for that week.  Homework is available, but optional.  This course is very adaptable to a wide range of learning levels from junior high (middle school) to high school and will provide info on what would be the requirement in high school if one were to study plant biology at that level.
Learning Goals
Learner will become familiar with and understand the expectations of plant biology at a high school level.  Hopefully, learner will have fun learning about unique North American native plants and their importance in ecosystems.

Lesson 1:
Overview of Class and Some Native Plants
 What will we cover in this class?  An overview that we will cover definitions and ideas. 
Lesson 2:
Native Berries
 Learn about wild strawberries and wild blueberries. 
Lesson 3:
Fleabane
 What is fleabane?  Would you think of this as a 'weed'? 
Lesson 4:
Jewel Weed
 What is jewel weed?  Is it useful in the ecosystem and can it be helpful for treating poison ivy?  What is fun about jewel weed?

Learning Needs
Teacher is well versed in various unique learning needs and will adapt the classes as best as possible if needed. Teacher's children both have Dyslexia and ASD.
