In  this class, we'll have some fun looking at the trials and errors of building a backyard ice skating rink.  This teacher has built a rink for two winters in a row now and has learned a few fun things about water.  Science observations will be discussed in this class.  Learners will be encouraged to think about design improvements to a backyard rink.
We will also think about the chemistry of water.  What is water made of?  This class will cover some basic chemistry about water, including that it expands when it freezes and that it is polar.  
The importance of water on planet earth and its unique properties will be covered in this course.

Learning Goals

Learners will gain knowledge of how to build a backyard skating rink and how to troubleshoot issues related to this project.

7 Lessons
over 3 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Introduction to Backyard Skating Rinks
 Learn how to build a backyard skating rink. 
Lesson 2:
The Importance of Water on Planet Earth
 Learn about the importance of water and some its unique properties 
Lesson 3:
How to Create and Maintain a Backyard Skating Rink
 Here are the details to create a backyard skating rink.  Learn how to make a simple ice flooding machine.  What worked well and what did not in my backyard rink. 
Lesson 4:
What is Water?
 Learn what water is made of.  What are the atoms in water.  How many molecules of water are in a glass of water?

Teacher provides lots of videos for learning. Learner may learn in any way they may prefer. Teacher is very aware of various learning styles as both children have Dyslexia and ASD.
