Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Learners will learn about chemical bonding and what element will bond with another element given some simple rules. Basic atomic theory some basic naming of molecules will be taught. The tetrahedron orbital shape of carbon will be discussed and organic chemistry will be touched on. The shape of dihydrogen monoxide (water!) will be discussed. Learners will have a basic knowledge of chemical bonding and a sense of how molecules are named by attending this class. The intent is to have fun and learn that there are lots of fun aspects of science to learn.
Teacher has a Bachelor of Environmental Chemistry degree from the University of Waterloo.
Homework will be to build another molecule and attempt to name it. This is optional though.
 5 files available upon enrollment
Learner can have the following to build molecules: Option 1: toothpicks and some form of gummy candy or small marshmallows that toothpicks can be pushed into Option 2: pony beads and pipe cleaners Option 3: print off the files in the Welcome Post and learner can cut out and tape or glue elements together Option 4: molecule kit
