US Grade 3 - 6
Struggling to learn the harder multiplication times tables? Is memorization of them difficult? In this one time class, students will learn two finger multiplying techniques that are really easy. For some learners, this may bridge the gap until memorization of times tables occurs. This can be a quick double check tool for answers on tests as well. For others, this technique may help students have times tables literally at their finger tips whenever needed! Both techniques will be taught in class. Students can use their fingers in quick techniques for 6, 7, 8, and 9 multiplications (the harder ones to learn!). Handouts will be provided before class. Students may practice through the worksheets or simply work through them on the screen. The highest knowledge needed is to know what 4 times 4 is and 4 times 3, plus know how to add to 8. All a learner needs is fingers for this class! A pen and paper is handy if the student likes to practice in this format!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to multiply the following times tables using fingers:
6 X 6, 6 X 7, 6 X 8, 7 X 7, 7 X 8, 8 X 8, 6 X 9, 7 X 9, 8 X 9, and 9 X 9.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from University of Waterloo
Hi, I'm Trudy Field. I have a Bachelor of Environmental Chemistry degree from the University of Waterloo. I love to make teaching fun. Students learn best when learning is fun. I like to make the class interactive and entertaining.
I have always loved to teach and coach people. I love those a-ha moments when someone learns something new and experiences the happiness in knowing a skill has been mastered.
I like to tutor chemistry, physics, biology, and math courses at a junior high and high school level. I like to teach fun parts about these subjects and the fundamentals that would help a student understand parts of high school courses. I have tutored many high school students.
Coaching figure skating has been a passion of mine for over twenty years. I like to figure out how people learn and to interact with different personalities.
I believe students learn best when taught in a fun way. I like to allow a bit of autonomy in a class. While coaching skating, I offer choices of what we'll learn next - like spins or jumps. We'll inevitably cover both during that session or by the next session. I like to try to be fun in class and will allow a little bit of fun after setting guidelines to ensure learning is still the priority.
A fun project I did this winter was build a backyard skating rink! I did it through stomping the snow and then flooding the backyard with water. My son and I rigged up a simple flooding machine too!
