Class Experience
Looking at Photoshop (or FREE Photopea) for the first time can be overwhelming, but in this easy introduction, I will show you the basics. In this course, learners will go from absolute beginner to being able to do basic photo editing, make fun collages, and complete simple graphic design projects. ⭐New to Outschool? I hold a Bachelors in Fine Art from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Art Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. I taught digital art as a public high school teacher and as an adjunct university professor; now I enjoy teaching digital art to students online. I love teaching drawing, painting, sculpture and Photoshop to learners of all ages. I've been teaching for 20+ years and running my own piano studio for 10+ years. There's a special place in my heart for creative works and the artists that make them, especially fantasy stories and narrative artworks, comics and graphic novels.

Materials Needed 💻 Computer or Laptop (Photoshop doesn't work on Chromebook.) 💻 Photoshop or Photopea 💡 If you have a good internet connection, you can use the free, online Photopea software, which works just like Photoshop, even on a Chromebook. You can find it here: https://www.photopea.com/ 💻 Access to Wikipedia to download images NOTE: ⛔ Do not use the iPad version of Photoshop for this class. It looks completely different and may confuse your learner. ⛔ Photoshop Elements is NOT the same as Photoshop. 💡 Please log into the Outschool classroom on the same device as your art app. If you are using a hand-held mobile device for your art app, I recommend you ALSO log into the Outschool classroom on a second device with a student-facing camera.

PRE-REQUISITE Students should know the basics of computer operation before registering for this class. Please check with your student to make sure they know how to: * use a mouse. (Please use a MOUSE, not a trackpad for this class!) * use Zoom to share their screen, give permission for the teacher to control the screen remotely, mute/unmute. * download a file from the Outschool class log-in page/ classroom. * unzip a *.zip file. * locate files downloaded to the computer or saved from Photoshop. * search for and download images using your browser using Google image search or similar. * upload files & post to Outschool's class log-in page/ classroom. ** If your learner is below the age threshold for this class or is not clear about the pre-requisites above, please attend a Photoshop 101 class or Camp first.** Photopea.com is free online software that works nearly exactly like Adobe Photoshop. Students who have not purchased and installed Photoshop on their computer may opt to use Photopea instead if they have a strong internet connection.
