Beginner Level
This is a 10-Day Series. Students will meet 10 times to complete this Camp. This is a beginners class that focuses on the elements of art. Students will be taught the many visual components which are the building blocks used to create an artwork. They will learn about core concepts such as line, shape, form, values, space and texture to create realistic animals. They will learn how to sketch human faces from multiple angles using lines, proportions, shape, perspective and basic facial anatomy. Students will also learn about the different parts of the figure drawing process such as gestures, movement, perspective and basic muscle anatomy. They will learn about core concepts and each will be explained with step-by-step practical exercises and explored through hands-on application. Emphasis will be on problem-solving, skill building, and helping students make decisions. Students will absorb prerequisite sketching skills in creating art of all forms. _______________________________________ Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies: Mandatory Video Check-In Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. Turning on their video at least once is also a requirement to access the recordings of meetings. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Parents may withdraw up to a week before class starts with a full refund OR within 24 hours of purchase. In the event a learner misses a class, recordings are made available in each classroom. Students are more than welcomed to reach out for any questions and share their work in the classroom. Late/ Missed Class All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.
Learning Goals
Students will sketch using the elements and principles of art. They will gain the basic knowledge about the approach and knowledge about the creation of a drawing.
Students will understand the fundamental principles of portraiture. They will gain confidence in creating portraits of unique faces.

LINES & SHAPES
Students will learn the most basic elements of lines and shapes which are used to create the foundation of any visual artwork. They will practice different line types, explore how we can identify shapes in any drawing and apply these concepts in drawing a simple animal sketch.

Lesson 2:
VALUES & TEXTURES
Students will learn how to interpret the effects of "light" also known as "values", and how the concept of value combined with shading techniques can be used to create different textures. Students will practice different shading techniques and apply them to achieve 3-D illusions of rough, smooth, silky and shiny textures.

Lesson 3:
2D TO 3D FORM
Students will learn how to create the illusion of depth by creating a 3-D form from a 2-D shape. They will learn how to unify all elements learned, by creating a sketch using lines and shapes, then achieving the values and shading needed to create texture, and identifying the positive and negative areas to make a realistic composition.

Lesson 4:
PROPORTIONS IN PORTRAITS
Students will learn the overall shapes used to make up the face along with the rule of proportions needed to map out main features.

We have a team of dedicated teachers who hold academic degrees and professional training in illustration, portraiture, figure drawing, fashion and costume design, game development and digital animation, etc.
Teacher Allie is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She holds a BFA degree of the California State University Long Beach, and is pursuing a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create.
Teacher Ang is a professional artist and 3D Modeler. She earned her BFA in Animation from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Aside from working as a Freelance Gameplay Animator and 3D Artist, she loves encouraging her students’ curiosity and helping them develop a passion for art. She strives to teach students skills that can bring their voices and ideas to reality. She believes that by building a foundational skill set, her students will be able to approach their artworks with new perspectives.
Teacher Brittany is a professional artist and illustrator. She holds a BA in Arts with a concentration on Visual Technology from the George Mason University in Virginia. She gained valuable industry experience as Technology Lead and Animation Instructor at art schools. She has worked as a freelance concept artist and illustrator in game design. She utilizes a background in comics, storyboarding and animation to bring creative concepts to life. With a strong background in traditional and digital painting, Brittany is currently teaching a wide variety of classes in various mediums to merge her love for illustration, painting and game development.
Teacher Katie is a professional artist with a background rooted in animation, where she crafts captivating illustrations for a diverse clientele. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Entertainment Arts and Animation from the California State University of Fullerton, and utilizes her love of telling stories through her work in story-boarding, illustration, and animation. Her passion in theatrical and costume design and the entertainment industry in general has contributed to an innovative approach in her teaching as well as inspired many students that she met in her classes. Teacher Katie is committed to nurturing an atmosphere of intrigue and creativity, where she empowers her students to unearth their unique narratives within their artistic work.
Teacher Palm is a professional fashion and costume designer familiar with the complete product creation life cycle from initial concept to constructed design. She holds a degree in Fashion Design from The Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition to over 10 years of teaching art and fashion, she is also experienced in staging collections in numerous international Fashion Shows for luxury clients including Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Ann Taylor and Kenneth Cole. She gained valuable industry experience in the capacity of Creative Consultant for designers, theaters and art schools. Palm is also proficient in a wide range of fine arts such as watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, etc. and approaches her teachings with a calm mind, optimism and positive affirmation.
