Class Experience

In this ongoing class, students will be shown a template with blanks that require specific parts of speech. The students will fill in all the blanks they can with their own words. If they get stumped, they may ask the teacher to draw a word from a bucket for them to complete a blank. Adding words drawn from the bucket will create silly sentences and help the students have fun with parts of speech.

Ex. ______________ _____________ ________________ _______________ ______________.
Article Adj. Adjective. Noun. Verb. Adverb

Before the students begin each sentence, we will discuss examples of the parts of speech required for that template. Once everyone has completed the first template, we will discuss the next template. Each week will follow the same format: introduce the template, discuss the parts of speech for that template, fill in the template. The class will complete as many templates each week as time allows. Each template will be posted on the screen one at a time for the students to reference while they are working.

Materials: pencil and paper

The parts of speech that will be used in the templates are:
Article Adjectives: a, an, the
Adjective: describing words
Nouns: person, place, thing
Verb: actions
Adverbs: words that end with ly
Prepositions: words that tell a location

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Keri Schaefer. I am excited to invite your student on an adventure in education. I am passionate about teaching and enjoy teaching a variety of ages. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Tarleton State University in 1997 and a Master's of Education from Sul Ross University in 2011. Along with twenty years of teaching experience in public school, my portfolio includes six years teaching College English in the evenings. My elementary background ranges from preschool through seventh grade English. As students progress through the educational system, it is fascinating to be a part of their development academically and emotionally. I strive to be a positive influence by encouraging students to share ideas and keeping classes fun. I love to sing and laugh. I also enjoy writing and literature. Since I was very young, I have been an avid reader. Sharing all of these experiences with students through education brings me so much joy. Having the platform to create and teach engaging, academic content is a dream come true. I look forward to many challenging and rewarding lessons with your student.
