Students should come to class with a small bowl of snacks (20 snacks total). Options include: Skittles, M&Ms, trail mix, colorful cereal or any combination of snacks that you enjoy! There is a picture showing an example. This will be an interactive class with teacher and students working together to practice data collection: sort, count, graph, compare, tally marks. Students will be able to verbalize and write Math sentences, and describe their snack data. We will use the webcam and microphones to share information. The teacher will share examples and students will share their data. I do, you do, we do!
Learning Goals
Students will use a set of data (snacks) to count, sort, graph, and compare numbers and collect data. Students will create a Math poster showing their skills. Skills can be scaffolded to include circle graphs, fractions and percentages.
Students will learn:
-Graphing/Comparing Numbers
-One-to-One Correspondence, tally marks
-Number Sense
-Sets and Classifying

Supply List
Snacks that can be manipulated and moved around work the best: Skittles, M & Ms, trail mix, colorful cereal, or any other items that can be sorted. We will only need 5-6 of each item. See photo for an example. Graph paper is also helpful (see file).
