Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 5
We will meet on a flexible schedule to learn about decoding multisyllabic words. We will also focus on words that end in ly, er, ed, est by doing sorts and discussing different reading strategies. We will complete sorts, write the words and use them in sentences in order to build familiarity with the patters and words overall. The ultimate goal will be to support Jamie with decoding unknown words in order to increase his overall accuracy when reading. He is currently independent at a level K and our goal is to help him become independent at a level L.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Roberts Wesleyan College
I have a Master's in Elementary and Special Education, a B.A. in Psychology. I am certified to teach in New York State and am also a certified Mindfulness for Children Practitioner. I have been teaching since 2006 and love to break things down and help students discover what works best for them. I have taught grades 1-6 in traditional schools and have experience providing home school instruction. My areas of focus are reading, math strategies, sight words, word study and motivating reluctant writers. I want my students to learn something new, but also discover a little bit about how they learn as that will help them for years to come. I often use humor to keep my students engaged and entertained during my classes. I live with my husband and two naughty cats in Florida. One of my favorite things is to the go to the beach and find fabulous shells. I look forward to seeing your child in one of my classes soon.
