US Grade Kindergarten - 1
We will preview vocabulary, read the story, discuss the story. If appropriate, we will complete a literature response about the story. This could be a picture or multi-sentence response depending on your child's reading level. In fiction books we will discuss important events, problem and solution and cause and effect relationships in the story. When ever possible we will discuss inferential questions such as why a character did something or make predictions about what may happen next in the story. In non-fiction books we will discuss main idea and details, identify important facts and work on written responses related to main idea and details. We may also work on comparing and contrasting information as well. Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Roberts Wesleyan College
I have a Master's in Elementary and Special Education, a B.A. in Psychology. I am certified to teach in New York State and am also a certified Mindfulness for Children Practitioner. I have been teaching since 2006 and love to break things down and help students discover what works best for them. I have taught grades 1-6 in traditional schools and have experience providing home school instruction. My areas of focus are reading, math strategies, sight words, word study and motivating reluctant writers. I want my students to learn something new, but also discover a little bit about how they learn as that will help them for years to come. I often use humor to keep my students engaged and entertained during my classes. I live with my husband and two naughty cats in Florida. One of my favorite things is to the go to the beach and find fabulous shells. I look forward to seeing your child in one of my classes soon.
