In this ongoing class, your learner will receive one-on-one, individualized instruction in reading and writing skills adapted and modified to meet the needs of any learner, including special needs: ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Neurodiverse, etc.

Class Experience

Through one-on-one, individualized tutoring, your learner will improve overall literacy skills through practicing phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension using a multi-sensory approach that is especially impactful for students with special needs, such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, and other neurodiverse condition. This individualized class will be instructed based on the area(s) of need that your child demonstrates. Through a quick assessment, I can determine specific skills to focus on, or you can tell me what you would like your learner to strengthen.

My philosophy is to meet children where they are and work on progression from there. Every child learns differently and at their own pace, so I adapt and modify my instruction to meet individual needs. Focus will be placed on the 5 main building blocks of reading: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension.

I will provide activities to complete or practice between tutoring sessions. Through repeated practice, learners will gain the skills needed to become confident and skilled readers. I use a variety of techniques and approaches, including slide shows, stories, movement, songs, flash cards, whiteboard, and more dependent on your student's age, ability-level, and interests. Let's work together to help your child succeed.

Learning Goals

Each learner will be individually assessed and goals will be determined. If your learner has an IEP, you are welcome to share the goals with me (not the entire IEP), and we can use those goals, if desired. Otherwise, we will create our own and track growth. As students reach goals, new ones will be written.

Supply List
Learners will need paper or a whiteboard with an appropriate writing tool (dry erase marker, pen, pencil, crayon, etc.).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

The majority of my career has been working with children with special needs and modifying and adapting curriculum to find best methods for individual growth. I am a certified teacher with a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degree all in education with special emphasis on English, Reading, Special Education, and Curriculum and Instruction.
