During this course, we will discuss why periods happen to the human body, different products that can be used (ie. pads, panty liners, and tampons) and when they should be used during your cycle. Additionally students will be given tools and materials such as: ideas on how to create a mood tracker, basic stretches and a workbook that includes journaling prompts, empowering poems from Rupi Kaur, Danielle Doby and more! The conversation will have an informal tone versus what you might remember from health class as a middle schooler, with the rationale that this environment will allow everyone to feel empowered and not embarrassed by their period.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the different sizes of period products and why having a variety might be helpful.
Students will learn tools to help them feel better during their period.

Students will be shown pads, panty liners and tampons during this class.
Supply List
Students will be given a downloadable journal/workbook that provides examples and ideas on how they can support themselves during the time of the month.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a middle school English teacher I coached BStrong BFit which was a program designed with UCHealth in the state of Colorado. Part of the coaching and curriculum included conversations/trainings on how to talk to students about their period, this then allowed me to assist male health teachers approach this subject within their classrooms. Additionally, I ran a program called Made of Magic which discussed topics around menstrual health at Poudre High School and Bill Reed Middle School in Northern Colorado.
