Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this one-hour tutoring session, students will learn the essential skills of self-advocacy, specifically tailored for their IEP meetings. We will cover topics such as understanding the components of their IEP, identifying what is working and what isn't, and articulating their needs and desired changes. The session is structured to begin with a brief review of the student's current IEP, followed by a discussion to explore their perspectives and experiences. We will then work together to develop a plan for the student to effectively communicate their needs during their next IEP meeting.

I will teach using a mix of interactive methods, including personalized discussions, practical exercises, and visual aids. My teaching style is supportive and student-centered, focusing on building confidence and empowering students to take an active role in their education. Learners will have plenty of opportunities to interact with me through guided discussions, hands-on activities, and role-playing exercises. This approach ensures that students are not only engaged but also able to apply what they learn in real-world scenarios.

Learning Goals

Understand the IEP: Students will gain a clear understanding of the components of their Individualized Education Program (IEP) and its purpose.
Self-Reflection: Students will learn to evaluate their own experiences, identifying what aspects of their IEP are working well and what areas need improvement.
