The material will basically be the same, but I will adjust the teaching style and details for the students' grade levels. Students who are in the overlap ages between classes are free to choose whichever class they feel would be most enjoyable and profitable. Please check my profile if you are interested in the High School level course. In each section, I'll use engaging lecture and vivid PowerPoint presentations to introduce learners to the basic periods of Western Art History. Throughout the class, we will discover what historical events influenced the style of the periods and meet the various artists who represent them. We will look at examples of the artists' works and styles, so that learners will be able identify artists by their paintings or sculptures. Although students will not be asked to fully draw or reproduce any of the works, I will use a document camera to help students complete a printable worksheet to practice or examine some of the visual elements used in art pieces, such as line, shape, and color. These activities will help students appreciate the technique and style used by these artists. Whether or not the learner has ever studied art, I want this class to be fun and engaging. No previous art experience is necessary for learners to enjoy this class.
Learning Goals
This class will help students understand periods of art history and identify works by famous artists. They will learn to appreciate various styles used within the art periods discussed.
