What's included
8 live meetings
6 in-class hoursClass Experience
What will my child learn? Your child will learn about the relationship between all four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and how those relationships aid in solving multiplication and division problems. Students will learn multiple strategies to solve multiplication and division word problems, including how to apply the properties of multiplication to different scenarios. Class Structure Our class is a 45-minute course that meets once every week for eight weeks, with each class building on the last. My typical class breakdown is as follows: - First 5 minutes: students complete the "Waiting Room Task" as a warm-up - Next 25 minutes: we will begin our lesson by reviewing vocabulary, introducing and applying the new strategy, and learning our skip-counting song for fact memorization - Last 15 minutes: students will play a collaborative game to prove their knowledge of the content, complete an exit ticket, and reflect on that day's lesson. Course Schedule The course will meet eight times. Class 1: Review of Addition and Subtraction/Introduction to Multiplication Class 2: Equal Groups Strategy (Multiples of 0-3) Class 3: Arrays (Multiples of 4) Class 4: Connection between Multiplication and Division/Fact Families (Multiples of 5 and 10) Class 5: Equal Groups and Arrays for Division (Multiples of 6) Class 6: Tape Diagram strategy (Multiples of 7) Class 7: Commutative and Associative Properties of Multiplication (Multiples of 8) Class 8: Distributive Property of Multiplication (Multiples of 9) Teaching Style In this course, I utilize all learning styles to engage each child. I utilize videos and music for auditory learners, google slides for visual learners, and hands-on activities and whole brain teaching methods for kinesthetic learners. I incorporate informal and formal assessments in all my lessons to evaluate your child’s understanding of the content, including exit tickets and quick check-ins. Learners will interact with me and other students through these tools, games, and discussions. What does my child need to know before enrolling in this class? Your child needs to know their name and possess a strong understanding of addition and subtraction. Students will also benefit from possessing a basic understanding of multiplication (putting together equal groups) as well. Please refer to the materials list for other requirements.
