Let’s face it. Assessments can be difficult. Students spend a significant amount of time studying and learning just to prove their mastery in one sitting. Tests are designed to evaluate a student’s progress towards particular learning targets, but standardized and entrance assessments have a different focus. While assessments in school monitor learning, standardized assessments track knowledge. Because these focuses are completely different, we must implement a different approach with our standardized assessments. This course will provide students with four foundational strategies, or “the house,” that will assist them in besting every test! What will my child learn? Your child will learn four distinct strategies to help them exceed expectations on every and any test. These strategies are transferable to any subject and assessment at any level. How is your class structured? Our class is a 50-minute course that meets once every week for 4 weeks. The typical class breakdown is: - First 5-10 minutes: check in, review past lesson, complete the entry ticket - Next 30-35 minutes: learn new content - Last 5 minutes: play a collaborative game and receive tasks for upcoming class How do you teach? In this course, I utilize all learning styles to engage each child. This course does require a level of independence and accountability, as we will be doing group activities that should lead to individual growth. I primarily use slideshows and other multimedia platforms to deliver instruction and make learning fun! I also utilize videos and music for auditory learners, google slides for visual learners, and hands-on activities for kinesthetic learners. I incorporate informal and formal assessments in all my lessons to evaluate your child’s understanding of the content, including exit tickets and quick check-ins, to make informed decisions about the upcoming lesson. I am responsive to students' needs at all times. What does my child need to know before enrolling in this class? Your child needs to know their name and have an open mind! This class will challenge their thinking so open-mindedness is key! That’s it!
