Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
Hands-on learning=Meaningful learning. This class explores the geometry concept of symmetry in a fun and hands-on way using Montessori colored beads. You can use your own from home or you can print them from the pdf we give you.

We will discuss what symmetry means (no prior experience is required) and then jump right into designing our own symmetrical spiders using Montessori beads as the legs. We will also double the numbers to get a sum of beads used. The teacher will be using a second camera to show her table, so we can learn together.

Students who truly understand and master math concepts learn to love math, and we want our students to experience math in a hands-on way where they know they can try new things, make mistakes, and learn from them.

Lesson 2:
Doubling to add with spider symmetry
This lesson is about doubling to add two numbers to get a sum. We will create new, basic designs and double the amount to get a sum. If the class is ready, we will discuss how this relates to multiplication since we are doing repeated addition.
