Class Experience

Let's talk Minecraft. Meet up with me and some other players every week as we build a new world in Minecraft. Each week we will log on to my Realm during our Zoom call so we can plan, build, and share our awesome Minecraft creations. Each week I will assign a topic for discussion or a team challenge. Then players will be split into teams to try the challenge or to chat while they free build. We can all teach and learn from each other as we explore the endless possibilities of Minecraft. Join me every week or just one week. Everyone is welcome in our world!

I have a few rules:
Be kind.
Have fun.
Don't build in someone else's area.
Don't break what someone else has built.
Don't build anything rude or offensive.
Be creative.
Share your cool build ideas.

Weekly Schedule:
Week One: Let's build a neighborhood. Each player can build their own house.
Week Two: Finish the neighborhood.
Week Three: Let's build Main Street.
Week Four: Finish Main Street.
Week Five: Build an attraction.
Week Six: Finish attraction.
Week Seven: Free Build.
Week Eight: Team Farms.

**IMPORTANT**
This class allows students to play on my Minecraft Realm. In order to participate students must have access to multiplayer games and be playing on Bedrock Edition. Students do not need to subscribe to Minecraft Realms.
Please make sure that your child meets all of the requirements BEFORE you sign up.

If playing on Windows 10
Child must have a free Xbox Live account.
Child must have permissions turned on.

If Playing on Xbox One
Child must have an Xbox GOLD account in order to play online.
Child must have permissions turned on. See above for instructions.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for players to build on the server if they do not meet the above requirements. Players may choose to register for the class and build independently on their own device while chatting on the Zoom call.

Learning Goals

While the class takes place in Minecraft the focus will be placed on citizenship, socialization, and society building. The goal of this class is to give students who are either homeschooled or learning from home a chance to practice social skills and citizenship. Learners will be asked to participate in the governance of the town we are building and conflicts will be solved internally.

Parental Guidance
Minecraft Realms is a White-List only private server. Everyone playing on the server has been invited by me. While I cannot guarantee that nothing inappropriate will ever be said or done by a student on the server, I have a no-tolerance policy and any student behaving in an inappropriate or bullying fashion will be removed from the Realm. I have not, so far, had to remove a student and have found Outschool students to be very kind and respectful.
Supply List
There will be no need for supplies outside of the game. Please confirm that your student has access to Minecraft Bedrock Edition ($29.99) and Online Multiplayer prior to signing up for the class. This is the correct version of Minecraft in case anyone still needs to buy it:

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Brenda and I'm a homeschool mom, an author, a swim instructor, and a really big nerd. I love stories. I like books, movies, and games. I love to learn about EVERYTHING! Some of my favorite things to learn about are math, dinosaurs, the Ancient Greeks, explosions, and world religions. I wish real life was a musical and I may spontaneously break into song.

My degree is in Theatre Arts with a minor in Psychology.

I believe everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. I also believe that we learn best when we are excited about what we are learning.

My favorite books are Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, my favorite movies are Independence Day and Fiddler on the Roof, and my favorite TV shows are MASH, Phineas and Ferb, and Firefly.
