Class Experience

This class is for students who are actively enrolled in my 'Ukulele Weekly One-On-One Lessons (Beginner-Advanced)" class.

Performance opportunity is an essential aspect of learning an instrument. Students can benefit significantly from the sense of accomplishment that comes with the cheers and applause for their hard work.

Additionally, students need to have the opportunity to watch peers perform pieces to help them appreciate and think critically about aspects of music and performance.

How will this work?

Students will be given up to three and a half minutes to perform a pre-approved piece of music on the ukulele for other students in this online recital.

The listed duration of this class is only 20 minutes, but the class will go on up to 60 minutes to allow all students to have their allotted performance time. Unfortunately, Outschool doesn't yet have a variable class duration option. So please plan on the recital taking anywhere from 20-60 minutes.

Students may choose to pre-record their pieces to be played but are encouraged to perform them live.

Students may choose to add other elements to their songs, such as singing, background tracks, or additional musicians (siblings or friends rocking the drums, pianos, kazoos, sick harmonies, etc.)

Students that are not actively performing will take on the critical role of audience member. Audience members should be positive and polite. For example, muting themselves before each performance and unmuting themselves for riotous applause and cheering after performances. Uplifting emoji reactions are also encouraged. There will be a quick audience etiquette briefing at the start of the recital.

Since this is a group class, I will strictly enforce Outschool's "No Parents On Camera" policy. Still, parents are more than welcome to be present off-camera for emotional and technical support.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I live with my wife and a small army of cats in Southern Utah. I first discovered my love of teaching when I was a merit badge instructor at Camp Frontier. Since then, I have become an Online Music Teacher and English teacher for students learning English as a second language.

I now have taught music on Outschool for over two years. During this time, I have taught over 3,000 classes while working with over 700 Students. I have loved every moment of it, and I don't plan to stop anytime soon.

My passions include music, chocolate making, Dungeons & Dragons, video games, and history.

I believe that education is the most effective when it's fun. When students are laughing, they are learning. So, I will always strive to make my classes entertaining, engaging, and interactive.
