🌞 Looking to get your child more practice with basic story problems? This ongoing enrichment class empowers students to begin to tackle word problems that include addition and subtraction. Each math problem will have a seasonal theme. We will focus on breaking down the problems and discussing the different strategies that can be used to solve them and which strategy would be the most efficient. 🤔 Have you been dealing with: ❓Concerns about your child's ability to solve math word problems? ❓Frustration over your child's lack of confidence in math? ❓Worrying about your child falling behind in math compared to peers? ❗️Then, this course is here to help. Each math problem presented will unveil multiple solution pathways, encouraging students to think creatively and reason abstractly. Students will grow their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Through discussions, modeling, and collaborative activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts while building confidence in their abilities. C L A S S B R E A K D O W N : In each session, students will work to solve word problems involving addition and subtraction problems within 20. Here’s how we approach each problem: Problem Analysis- As a group, we will break down what the problem is asking us to solve. Independent Problem Solving—To foster self-reliance, students will have time to solve problems independently (with help if needed) by drawing pictures, using mental math, or using other strategies. Interactive Sharing - We share our answers and discuss strategies collaboratively. Strategy Discussion - We will explore strategies to tackle word problems efficiently and confidently. Problems in September, October, and November will have a fall theme. Problems in December, January, and February will have a winter theme. Problems in March, April, and May will have a spring theme. Problems in June, July, and August will have a summer theme. T E A C H I N G S T Y L E: - 🌟 Small group or 1:1 guided math discussion about solving word problems. - 🤝 Peer interaction & connection encouraged. - 🧩 Problem-solving exploration for efficient strategies. - 🔍Problems with multiple solution pathways to encourage students to reason abstractly. - 📝 Recorded answers on a shared whiteboard. - 🤔 Guided discussion to deepen understanding. This class suits students from the end of kindergarten through 2nd grade. Students should come prepared with a beginning grasp of addition and subtraction facts. This is considered a missed meeting, and you are not entitled to a refund. ✅Per Outschool policy, missing 3 consecutive class meetings without communication will result in forfeiture of the class fee, and the student will be withdrawn. ✅If your learner’s meeting time changes because daylight saving time starts or ends for several world regions, you are not entitled to a refund if they cannot attend. Please review your learner’s schedule ahead of time to ensure you know when classes are meeting. ❓What if the technology doesn't work?
