Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Learners meet 1X weekly, gaining an understanding of addition & subtraction facts; listen to, learn facts by seeing pictures of numbers for easy recall; use stories & songs, using manipulatives to build concepts in this fun engaging class.

Learners will gain an understanding of addition and subtraction facts and fact families. They will listen to addition and subtraction stories read by the Teacher, act out and retell stories, learn facts by seeing pictures of each number character for easy recall and memorization of basic facts through 10 plus 10 [and higher]. Learners will gain an understanding of each operation [addition, subtraction] and the process through the grouping of manipulatives, manually moving and drawing various objects, using a white board, graph paper, magnets [magnetic manipulatives], cubes, tiles or blocks, skip counting and finger tricks as they develop math concepts. Learners ready to tackle simple multiplication concepts will move on to the next level. When they are ready, learners could advance to MATH Fact Families: Learning Multiplication & Division Facts the FUN Way.

Learners are encouraged to enroll in this course, MATH Fact Families: Learn Addition & Subtraction Facts the FUN Way as many times as needed to ensure, not only that they know the addition and subtraction facts, but place value, regrouping, how numbers work, how these two operations work together that build the foundation for multiplication and division operations. This course is ongoing and goes through a specified curriculum every twelve weeks.

The goal of this Math class is to help each learner understand the math that they see. Learners learn much easier using visual and kinesthetic methods that are represented by 3-D manipulatives, blocks, cubes, legos, or coins which are all invaluable tools for helping the learner see how Math facts work together.

Whether the learner is new to addition and subtraction facts or needs to gain a clearer understanding, practice memorization and soar to the top of their class, this MATH Fact Families: Learn Addition & Subtraction Facts the FUN Way is just for you.

Week of July 15th, 22nd & 29th:

Being an educator for forty + years, I've taught all subjects to students K-8 which included math classes at all levels. I've taught special needs students and designed full curriculum for K-12 students. In addition, I have taught students online for seven years. When I was a young student, I thought I didn't like math because any thing above addition and subtraction seemed a little hard for me. The truth was, I didn't understand the fundamentals of math operations, even though I could calculate and get the right answers every time when adding or subtracting. This is why I am so passionate about learners understanding the concept and relationship to numbers and operations, because once they understand that, learners can build on the basic fundamentals taught at this age and excel in Math and really begin to love it as I do now.
