Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
One reason behind the confusing spelling of some words is that English borrows from different languages. But recognizing spelling patterns can reduce all the mystery and frustration. Here, learners learn English spelling rules that every learner should know. When learners first look at a word they are unsure of how it's spelled, it seems complicated, but after some practice, learners soon realize it's not as bad as it looks, especially after learning the spelling rule, practicing and applying it. And that's why learners come to "Uncovering Spelling Secrets: Becoming a Confident Speller," to uncover those secrets and become a confident speller.

Learners learn, practice and uncover spelling secrets, rules and common spelling patterns to become confident spellers. Learners who want to improve their spelling, dyslexic learners, struggling spellers or those just wanting a solid spelling foundation have come to the right place, Uncovering Spelling Secrets: Becoming a Confident Speller. Learners will learn to spell words correctly by relying on dependable spelling rules and have time to practice each of these rules with each lesson each week. Learners can enroll at any time. A new spelling rule is introduced each week and these classes are ongoing.

Learning how to spell correctly will help each learner develop literacy skills by allowing them to use words correctly and express themselves in writing. By being able to spell words correctly, learners are able to understand the meanings of words better, read better and can also write more accurately.

Learners begin with spelling words orally given by the Teacher which will give a starting point of the learners understanding of what they know and can spell based on the spelling rule that will be taught. Learners are then introduced to a new spelling rule and practice each rule verbally, written, practice memorizing the rule, write words applied to the rule, write phrases, sentences and spell them orally. Learners will occasionally engage in spelling bees and games.

I am a retired public school Principal who has taught and written curriculum for grades K-12 in all subject areas. I have taught learners from grades K-12, Special needs learners, adults, ESL learners from several countries it seems for most of my life. Teaching children is what I love to do! And teaching learners of all ages to read, write and spell is foundational to success and is my passion. I personally love spelling and enjoyed spelling competitions since I was a little girl. Trust me, I practiced my spelling list / words and made sure I got an A+ on each test. So when faced with competition, I was ready!

I love to work with children in all subject area [reading, writing, science, cooking to name a few] but teaching them to read, write and spell are my favorite. Seeing the "lights" come on as a learner "gets it," understands the spelling rule and WHY words are spelled as they are is what I love most and love being a part of that experience is so very gratifying.

I am very happy to be teaching on the Outschool platform and look forward to my passion for reading, writing and spelling, in particular, rubbing off on your learner.
