1:1 Private Reading Tutor - Strictly Reading With Reid - Grades 4-9 [ELA/ESL]

In this ongoing 1:1 tutoring, learners receive private tutoring in reading literacy, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, phonological and phonemic awareness, taking learners from where they are today to a new level. Challenged readers welcome.

Learners practice reading, reading, reading. They read aloud to their teacher and I give immediate feedback and gentle correction on pronunciation, fluency, accuracy, pace and expression, key elements in reading. Learners are additionally assisted with tone, verbal expression, answering and asking questions that will help grow the learner's comprehension. 

Learners develop reading fluency, automatic decoding; build vocabulary, reading comprehension, a better understanding what they read, including identifying the main idea in passages, understanding contextual clues, order of events, fact and opinion, critical thinking, phonological and phonemic awareness. 

There are five aspects to the process of reading: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, reading comprehension and fluency. These five aspects work together to create the reading experience and work together to create strong, rich, and reliable reading abilities, but so often they're taught separately or in uneven distribution.

As learners learn to read, they must develop skills in all five of these areas in order to become successful readers. These are the areas of concentration with each lesson. Learners must develop proficiency with print concepts, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency skills which will help them better understand texts.

📚Reading! along with building thinking pathways, making connections, asking questions, identifying key ideas, then applying these concepts as they read! read! read! Depending on the age and reading ability of the learner, learners will be introduced to different genres [fiction, non-fiction, mystery, narrative, poetry, novel, science & historical fiction and fantasy], as well as fairy & folk tales. Learners will practice oral reading across different genres.
📚Then read again! Lots of practice with oral reading.

GOAL: A fluent reader who reads aloud effortlessly with expression and confidence.

It is highly encouraged that learners continue their 1-on-1 private tutoring week after week or even two times a week until parents feel their learner has grown to their expected reading level. 

*** SPECIAL NOTE TO PARENTS: Learners can enroll in private tutoring classes one, two or three times a week if they so desire. Because this is 1:1 private tutoring, learners can begin at any time. Learners should be enrolled with consistent, ongoing weekly classes in mind from the onset for best results allowing time for evident signs of growth.

*** Additional supplies may be needed as the learner advances through their individualized educational plan, such as selected books. Parents will always be notified ahead of time when the learner needs additional materials.

For academic purposes, cameras and mics must be working and turned on for the duration of each lesson.
