This on-going course will help students with all things note-taking and researching. The classroom will be very interactive and activity-based and I will provide a lesson framework for each class with a different topic. Students will be able to apply what they learn to their own personal studies and classes. We will tackle many different areas of note-taking including summarizing, picking out significant details in note-taking, learning how to shrink your notes, using your notes to study, organization and color, how to utilize graphic organizers, research skills, and avoiding plagiarism. Each class will present a new strategy and practice with that strategy. Week One: Main Ideas in Notetaking Week Two: Sketchnoting Week Three: Coding Your Text Week Four: Mindmapping Week Five: Shorthand & Quicknotes Week Six: Taking Notes for a Research Project Week Seven: How to Set Up a Writer's Notebook Week Eight: Shrinking Down Your Notes Week Nine: Using Color in Your Notes Week Ten: Post-It Notes in Notetaking Week Eleven: Cornell Notes
Learning Goals
Students will learn the strategies and techniques necessary to be a good notetaker, researcher, and to avoid the dangers of plagiarism.
