US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
*Click "Show More" for the class schedule* Students will learn about letters while exploring all things slimy and squishy. They can use slime that they have bought or made, putty, clay, play dough, slimy (kinetic) sand, squishy food, and anything else that they can think of that is slimy or squishy! Students will also learn how to form the letters with a marker, or simply color in the letters to get to know their shapes. ** A worksheet with the letter and letter association will be uploaded each week for the letter of the week. I will link it as a Google Slide and as a PowerPoint, then learners can print it and bring it to class. I recommend putting the worksheet in a plastic sleeve or sheet protector so that the clay does not stick to the paper. The plastic can also be written on with a dry erase marker, then wiped clean to reuse!** I will guide students with some initial discussion and give each student a moment to share what they brought for the day, or to ask a question. After each learner shares, I will teach students how to use their slimy or squishy substances to make a letter and simple animals or objects to associate with that letter. I use the Orton-Gillingham based Wilson Fundations Phonics letter/keyword associations as these are very common in kindergarten curriculum. I also share a picture of at least one animal that starts with our letter of the day, and we learn a fact about that animal. Students can make requests at the end of class if time allows. This is a great way to practice social skills in a fun and interactive environment while also learning beginner art techniques. Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parental guidance is suggested to make sure that learners are aware of safety. Some slimes and squishy substances should not be eaten or put in the mouth.
Supply List
I will add an optional worksheet before each class with some letter outlines that can be printed to use with the squishy substances and markers. I suggest that you laminate the paper or put it in a sheet protector. You can also put it under some clear plastic wrap and have your learner play on top of the plastic wrap! Using a plastic sheet protector is also great for writing on with a dry erase marker. Learners can bring anything slimy or squishy. Ideas include: play dough air dry clay plastalina clay polymer clay slime cloud slime squishy sand slimy goop sand kinetic sand putty mud Learners may bring food items that are squishy or slimy if the parent desires. Make sure your learner knows if they are allowed to eat it or not! Some of my students have enjoyed things like: marshmallow fluff gelatin homemade nut/seed butter play dough pizza dough fondant
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Special Education
I have a professional teaching certificate in the field of Special Education, and I have been teaching elementary school aged kids for over four years. I also homeschool my own daughter. I enjoy teaching all subjects, but I am especially fond of art and tactile teaching. I like to show my students how to get their hands on something to enhance their learning. I am a big proponent of growth mindset, including encouraging young learners who are not quite confident yet.
