Does you want to see your student develop fluency in reading? Is your student able identify letter sounds and blend basic three letter (CVC) words? In this ongoing course, we will practice phonics skills with direct instruction focused on blending, digraphs, diphthongs, and word work. Each week, students will practice one or two phonograms new phonograms and build the repertoire of words they are able to read with confidence. Using a multi-sensory approach and a variety of strategies, your student will be an active and engaged learner in the course. As a pre-requisite, students should have letter recognition skills for the alphabet and be able to blend basic 3-letter (CVC) words. What to expect: 1. Letter recognition: We will begin the class reviewing the letter sounds needed to blend words during the class. 2. Warm Up: Daily warm up with an activity focused on building phonemic awareness. 2. Phonogram Instruction: Using direct instruction and a variety of teaching strategies, we will learn two new phonograms. 3. Word Practice: Students will practice reading words containing the new phonograms. Students will manipulate their individual word tiles during this portion of the class and use a hands on approach to reading. 4. Words in Context: Students will practice reading new words in sentences with words they can already read. 5. Word Activity: We will end class with a fun activity or game. Learning Goals
Students will use blends, digraphs, diphthongs, and letter combinations to build and read words.
Students will build phonemic awareness by manipulating letters and identifying how new letters change existing words.

Supply List
Students should have a set of letter manipulatives, paper tiles, or flashcards to build words. Weekly print out No additional resources are required for class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
