Let's Read! I Know My Letters. Beginning Reading, Phonics, and Fluency Skills

This ongoing beginning reading skills course will focuses on phonics through blending letters and building phonemic awareness. Each week, students will work with a set of letters to practice building and blending together two and three letter words. We will use a multi-sensory approach while implementing a variety of strategies that are sure to keep your learner engaged. By adding on several additional letters each week, your student will quickly gain an understanding of how individual letter sounds, phonemes, fit together to make words. To build phonemic awareness, an essential and foundational skill in early literacy, students will spend time each day focusing on phonemes in words and identifying how words are similar and different. 

As a pre-requisite, students should have basic letter recognition skills for the alphabet. 

What to expect:
1. Letter recognition: We will begin the class with a quick review of the letters students will be using during the day's lesson. The teacher will provide students with tips for helping remember letter sounds.

2. Strategy Review: We will review the steps and strategies used in class to blend words. This same strategy can easily be used by students outside of class to practice their reading skills and build fluency. 

3. Word Practice: Students will work with phonemes and build words.  Students will manipulate their individual word tiles during this portion of the class and use a hands on approach to reading. 

4. Word Activity: We will end class with a fun activity or game.
