🗓️ SCHEDULING OPTIONS: If the days/times listed here don’t fit your schedule, this class is also available in two additional formats, each offering the same high-quality content and materials. ✏️ Course Format: https://outschool.com/classes/3rd-grade-spelling-full-year-GWVkd8cn ✏️ Asynchronous Self-Paced Format: https://outschool.com/classes/lets-learn-and-practice-3rd-grade-spelling-set-1-KZP50onZ ⭐️ OTHER GRADE LEVELS: There are also 2nd and 4th Grade Spelling classes available. ✏️ 2nd Grade: https://outschool.com/classes/lets-learn-and-practice-2nd-grade-spelling-jhNMOfwr ✏️ 4th Grade: https://outschool.com/classes/lets-learn-and-practice-4th-grade-spelling-1f7Fy7we Whether your child is a proficient reader and great at spelling or a struggling reader who has difficulty with spelling, this class will help reinforce what they know and support them on their learning journey. This course targets a different third-grade spelling pattern each week with fun activities in our once-a-week live meeting and optional supplementary activities throughout the week. After brief introductions, we will begin class by looking at and reading a short story together. Students will try to find the words in the story that fit the week’s spelling rule. Then students will look at a group of pictures to look for words that fit the week’s spelling rule. They will then practice spelling and reading words with the week’s rule using slides I share from my screen. Next, students will complete the spelling worksheet of the week (also displayed on my screen). If you are not able to print it out before class, students will still be able to participate by writing on any sheet of paper they have at home. We will end class with a game for students to identify the words that are spelled correctly or incorrectly. After class, I will post optional supplementary activities that parents may use at home to extend their child's learning throughout the week: 1. A video where I read dictation sentences for students to write, along with an answer key 2. A self-checking interactive Google Slides presentation to check for comprehension of the meaning of the words, and 3. A video where I read ten spelling words and use them in a sentence for students to take a spelling test, along with an answer key. These optional videos can be watched, paused, and restarted at any time after they're posted to match your child's needs for pacing. This ongoing class will cover 36 different third grade spelling patterns over 36 weeks (late August-early June). The target spelling pattern will change each week and will be updated in this class description as we go along (listed by the week of): WEEK OF... December 1: short aw sound (crawl, laundry, taught, ...) December 8: long & short oo (moose, balloon, understood, ...) December 15: r-controlled consonants (quarter, marker, started, ...) [Spelling patterns for March-May will be posted as we get closer to those months.] CLASS POLICIES ----------------- LATE ARRIVALS: I understand that sometimes your child may need to arrive late to class. Please remind your child to sign on quietly without interrupting class to respect the teacher and those who are already in class. I will greet your child when there is a natural stop in whatever we are doing at the time and involve them in the class. MISSED CLASS: Since this is a weekly class, enrolling saves a spot for students for the whole week and you will still receive the week's materials including access to the class recording. No other student may pay for or fill that spot for that week. Sometimes students have to miss one of the days for various reasons, but there is no refund for those missed days. Please send me a message if you would like me to share the class recording for a missed class so that your child can watch the playback. Or, with advanced notice, I am happy to transfer your child to another section meeting that same week. The other option is to pause your subscription for the week (must be done by the Sunday of the week of class to avoid being charged for the week).
Learning Goals
Students will learn and practice third grade spelling words. This class meets the 3rd Grade Common Core English Language Arts standards L.3.2 and L.3.3.

Parental Guidance
YouTube video links for the dictation sentences and spelling test videos are shared in Classroom Posts. Outschool embeds these links on its platform so that learners remain on the Outschool platform and don’t access the YouTube website.
The teacher creates a Kahoot! spelling game and shares the link each week in Classroom Posts. An account is not required to use either of these resources and students do not need to use their real names when playing the Kahoot! game.
Links are shared weekly to the Google Docs answer keys. Occasionally, the week's supplementary activities will include a quiz using Google Forms. Neither students nor families are required to sign-in or have a Google account to access these class resources.
