Class Experience

US Grade 3
⭐️ LIVE (ONGOING) CLASS ALTERNATIVE: This self-paced class series mirrors my 36-week live (ongoing) class. It is an alternative for families who need more flexibility with their schedules. I've recorded videos of the same material I present in the live class and self-paced students receive the same supplementary activities as the ongoing class. Set 1 covers Patterns/Weeks 1-6 of the live (ongoing) class, Set 2 covers Patterns/Weeks 7-12, etc. Please see each listing for a list of specific spelling patterns covered.

Whether your child is a confident reader and excellent speller or struggling with reading and spelling, this class is designed to support their spelling journey. This course targets six different third grade spelling patterns with fun activities in videos and optional supplementary activities.

Each lesson focuses on one pattern and includes:
1.) Introduction Video: an introductory video of me teaching the spelling pattern with supplementary worksheets -- this video will include periodic questions and pauses to encourage students to respond and remain engaged with the activities (finding the spelling pattern in a story, sorting words that do and do not fit the spelling rule, and spelling/reading the words),
2.) Dictation Practice: a video of me reading dictation sentences for students to write, plus an answer key,
3.) Comprehension Check: a self-checking interactive activity to check for comprehension of the meaning of the words,
4.) Spelling Test: a video where I read ten words for a spelling test, plus an answer key, and
5.) Bonus Activities: extend learning with bonus activity ideas to reinforce the lesson's words.

Students have the flexibility to watch, pause, and revisit videos according to their pace. They can choose to engage in all activities or select those most beneficial to them.

I recommend dedicating one week to each of the six patterns, though students can progress at their preferred speed. The estimated time for completing all activities provided per lesson/pattern ranges from 30 to 60 minutes, totaling 3 to 6 hours for the entire course.

Here's an approximate breakdown of activity times:

• Introduction video: 15-20 minutes
• Dictation sentences: 5-10 minutes
• Comprehension activity: 5-10 minutes
• Spelling test: 5-10 minutes
• Bonus activities: 5-10 minutes each

I'm available to address any questions or concerns via the Outschool Conversations tab, typically responding within one business day.

For your convenience, this class is offered as a Self-Paced Class. There are NO LIVE MEETINGS. Instead, I will upload videos and assignments to the Outschool Classroom. Students can watch the videos at their convenience and take their time going through the activities.

On Kahoot!, students can practice each lesson's spelling words in a fun game format.

Why choose a self-paced class?
* Families with busy schedules don’t have to commit to a specific day or time.
* You can be in any time zone.
* Your child can work at their own pace, watch the videos at any time, pause when needed, and replay at any time.
* It alleviates any concern your child might have about being on camera in a live meeting or in larger class sizes.
* The teacher is always available to answer any questions students may have via Outschool messages.
