Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this class, we will help each other develop our phonological awareness. We will discover and explore speech sounds in different ways: through nature sounds; matching pictures and sounds; listening and speaking games; and blending and reading games. We will also start learning how to blend sounds together to produce words. We will focus on a particular sound each day and we will cover the following sounds: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss.

Week 1 Commencing on Jan 31st: s
Week 2 Commencing on Feb 7th: a
Week 3 Commencing on Feb 14th: t
Week 4 Commencing on Feb 21st: p
Week 5 Commencing on Feb 28th: i
Week 6 Commencing on Mar 7th: n
And so on... Once we have covered all the sounds in the list, we will begin again with the "s" sound.

The lessons will be structured in the following way:
1. Greetings and introductions.
2. Introduction of a new sound.
3. Listening and Speaking songs and games.
4. Reading and Writing games (I spy with my little eye, Find the hidden sounds, Trace and Decorate your sound, Follow the patterns, Snakes and Ladders, and many more).
5. Show and tell on the last day of each week.

For this lesson, children should be at the very start of their phonics learning. We will begin with the most basic sounds and build our knowledge from there.

All activities are designed to be interactive and to promote participation from every child. They also encourage children to use new and previously learnt sounds.
