Beginner Level
In this class, we will help each other develop our phonological awareness. We will discover and explore speech sounds in different ways: through nature sounds, matching pictures and sounds, listening and speaking games. We will also start learning how to blend sounds together to produce words. And lastly, we will begin to recognize each sound's written form. During Phase 2, we will learn the new graphemes: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss, j, v, z, zz, y, w. The lessons will be structured in the following way: 1. Greetings ( and introductions only in the first class or when a new student joins). 2. Introduction of a new sound. 3. Listening and Speaking activities. 4. Reading and Writing activity. 5. Game. 6. Plenary, quick recap of sounds (Show & Tell: talk about an object starting with our sound of the day). For this lesson, children should be at the very start of their phonics learning. We will begin with the most basic sounds and build our knowledge from there. Children who have already started learning the first set of sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n), but still find it tricky, are also welcomed in our class, as we will begin our journey with these sounds. If your child is able to sound out and read most of this text, then this class is not the right level for them. Try my next level: "Reading With Phonics: Phase 3&4 Ongoing." The frog sat on the log. The pig is in the mud. The cat is in the box. The duck is in the pond. All activities are designed to be interactive and to promote participation from every child. Topics for each lesson: Week 1 of 8 (W/C: Sep 9th): sounds s/ss, a, t. Week 2 of 8 (W/C: Sep 16th): sounds p, i, n. Week 3 of 8 (W/C: Sep 23rd): sounds m, d, g. Week 4 of 8 (W/C: Sep 30th): sounds o, c, k/ck. Week 5 of 8 (W/C: Oct 7th ): sounds w, e, u. Week 6 of 8 (W/C: Oct 14th): sounds r, h, b. Week 7 of 8 (W/C: Oct 21st): sounds f/ff, l/ll, j. Week 8 of 8 (W/C: Oct 28th): sounds v, z/zz, y. After week 8, the cycle restarts. *Remember to click the heart on my profile to follow me in order to see new classes.*
