Start Reading With Phonics: Phase 1 & 2.
What's included
24 live meetings
10 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Optional homework will be posted at the beginning of the week for each lesson. Children can choose to do it digitally or print it and do it on a sheet of paper. Also, encourage your child to look for and identify our sounds and letters in their day to day activities. For example: if children go out to play or go to a shop, they can try to read different signs looking for the sound practised that day; or if they stay home, they can try to look at their own storybooks and find the sounds.Assessment
Children will be assessed through informal assessment (student participation).Class Experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this class, we will help each other develop our phonological awareness. We will discover and explore speech sounds in different ways: through nature sounds, matching pictures and sounds, listening and speaking games. We will also start learning how to blend sounds together to produce words. And lastly, we will begin to recognize each sound's written form. During Phase 2, we will learn the new graphemes: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss The lessons will be structured in the following way: 1. Greetings ( and introductions only in the first class). 2. Quick recap of previously introduced sounds. 3. Introduction of a new sound. 4. Listening and Speaking activity (Show and tell or craft activity on the last day of each week). 5. Reading and Writing activity. 6. Game. 7. Plenary, quick recap of sounds. For this lesson, children should be at the very start of their phonics learning. We will begin with the most basic sounds and build our knowledge from there. Children who have already started learning the first set of sounds (s, a, t, p, i, n), but still find it tricky, are also welcomed in our class, as we will begin our journey with these sounds. If your child is able to sound out and read most of this text, then this class is not the right level for them. Try my next level: "Reading With Phonics: Phase 3&4" The frog sat on the log. The pig is in the mud. The cat is in the box. The duck is in the pond. All activities are designed to be interactive and to promote participation from every child. They also encourage children to use new and previously learnt sounds. *Remember to click the heart on my profile to follow me in order to see new classes.*
Learning Goals
Students will begin their phonological journey and develop their skills to begin blending sounds and identifying their written form.
