For this Self-Paced class, we will be meeting for six (6) weeks on learning different aspects of Chrome Music Lab. We will learn how to use Chrome Music Lab Song Maker, and learn to write simple songs on there. We will also learn how to write the first 16-bars of "Satisfied" from the musical, "Hamilton." We will also explore the other features of Chrome Music Lab together, and then the final project will consist of each learner composing their original work from Song Maker. Learners will be asked to pick a certain number task each week on Google slides, and search for that task on there to complete the task they chose. Once learners complete the task, they will post their task number work on the classroom page to share with others.

Videos of the lessons will be posted each week.

Week 1: Introductions and introduction to how to use Chrome Music Lab. Learners will be expected to share a recording of their work in writing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." The teacher will go over step by step how to do this successfully in the lesson videos. Learners will also need to share their kind thoughts on other learners' creations as well. Learners will also choose from numbers 1-4 for the Song Maker task game, and share a video of which task they chose on the classroom page.

Week 2: Learners will write a "Name Song." This will mean that learners will share a recording of their "Name Song" from
Song Maker on Chrome Music Lab. They will use Song Maker to write their name. Learners will also need to share their kind thoughts on other learners' creations as well. Learners will also choose from numbers 5-10 for the Song Maker Task game, and share their task number video on the classroom page.

Week 3: Learners will learn how to put in simple chords into Song Maker. Demonstrating will also be on video lesson. Learners will be expected to post their recording of writing "Jingle Bells" from Song Maker. Learners will also need to share their kind thoughts on other learners' creations as well. Learners will also choose from numbers 11-16 for the Song Maker task game, and share a video of which task they chose on the classroom page.

Week 4: Learners will see a demo video from the teacher on how to write the song "Satisfied" from the musical, "Hamilton" on Song Maker. Learners can choose to create their version of "Satisfied" OR they can use another song from another musical to write on Song Maker as well. Learners will need to record and share their creations on the classroom page. Learners will also need to share their kind thoughts on other learners' creations as well. Learners will also choose from numbers 17- 22 for the Song Maker task game, and share a video of which task they chose on the classroom page.

Week 5: Learners will explore other features of Chrome Music Lab. Learners are expected to record at least two creations of other aspects of Chrome Music Lab (NOT Song Maker), and share their work on the classroom page. Learners will also need to share their kind thoughts on other learners' creations as well. We will also start sharing about the final project together. Learners will also choose from numbers 23-28 for the Song Maker task game, and share a video of which task they chose on the classroom page.

Week 6: For the final week, learners will be focusing on creating their final project that they will share with other learners. Questions will be asked throughout the week from the teacher that learners are expected to answer. Before the session ends, learners need to share their final projects on the classroom page, and other learners are also expected to leave kind comments about other learners projects as well. Learners will also choose from numbers 29-32 for the Song Maker task game, and share a video of which task they chose on the classroom page.

Hello! My name is Kelsey Thornton. My sweet friends on Outschool like to call me Ms. Kelsey. I love teaching Montessori lessons, especially Math and Science lessons! I also love to talk about Music, and play around on Chrome Music Lab. I am also a YouTube content creator with my own page, Online Adventures With Kelsey.

I have had 17 years of experience with children. 3 years as a Brick and Mortar Montessori trained teacher (My Early Childhood credential training was under the American Montessori Society). I also have 1.5 years experience as an ESL online teacher. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (with my main focus in Music Education).

My philosophy on teaching is following the child on their learning interests and understanding that all children learn new concepts in different ways. My approach to teaching is using the Montessori Method with some of the Montessori materials as well. This is definitely beneficial for younger students (ages 3-6 years old) as they are in their “Absorbent Mind” stage of their lives, where they are able to absorb everything they are learning with ease. I want to be able to provide for you and your family a safe approach to learning the Montessori Method all in the comfort of your own home. I love transferring this method into other ways of teaching others, including in music and content creating.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Christian, for six years now. We have one cat (Bones) and two dogs (Brute and Miracle). My husband and I love to play board games and video games in our spare time and try new foods out at local restaurants, too!
