Homework
1 hour per week. There will be small craft projects due at the end of each week’s lesson. Learners are to share their projects on the classroom page, and respond to other learners’ work, too. Learners will also need to respond to questions each week sent by the teacher on the classroom page.

Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
For this 4-week self-paced class, we will be learning about different types of insects that we know, and maybe some we do not know. We will also learn why some insects are beneficial to us on Earth. We will also be creating fun projects each week that we will be sharing on the classroom page.

Week 1- We will learn about insects in general (qualities of insects) and pollinating insects (bees, ants, wasps, flower beetles, and moths). The project for this week will be to create a bee tube.

Week 2- We will learn about insects that are considered garden protectors (lady bugs, praying mantis, dragonflies, and ground beetles). The project for this week will be to create a paper plate lady bug.

Week 3- We will learn about insects that help us on Earth along with singer insects (flies, dung beetles, grasshoppers, crickets, and cicadas). We will hear different sounds of insects during this week with video examples. The project will be to create a clothespin grasshopper. 

Week 4- The final week of lessons. We will learn about other insects, with some of the annoying insects (mosquitos, termites, cockroaches). We will also talk about stick insects, and the life cycle of a butterfly. The final project will be to create your own butterfly.

 We will be learning about butterflies and other insects around us. 

Other Details

Supply List
There will be supplies needed for each week’s projects:

Week 1- Empty toilet paper roll, yellow and black construction paper, googly eyes, liquid glue, scissors, markers, black pipe cleaners.

Week 2- Paper plate, red paint or markers, tape, googly eyes, black construction paper, scissors, liquid glue, pipe cleaners. 

Week 3- Clothespin, green paint or markers, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, hot glue (with grown-up’s help), magnet. 

Week 4- Clothespin, Coffee filter, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, liquid glue (or hot glue with grown-up’s help), different colored markers, small spray bottle with water.
